The Mask
After a long search we have finally found a mask which we feel is appropriate for our short film. We felt that it was extremely important to not choose anything cheesy, as we don’t want cheap laughs from our audience. We wanted a detailed mask that our audience could recognise immediately. However, all of this has come at a price. The mask only costs £6.50, however we could only find one in the USA therefore it will cost us an additional £21.45 to ship it over. We feel that this heavy price to ship it over is worth it, as the mask is perfect.
The Set
The main ‘prop’ which we intend to use in our film is the set. We want to create our own set which we can use for the shots of the gnomes home, which is a shot we want to repeat throughout the film. We will either create this set on a trailer, which we can then move around, or create it in a studio where it will be much easier to make.
We understand the risks with creating this set. First of all it will take a lot of time making, which we know we could be using doing other things for the film, for example looking up locations. Also, we need to make it look real, even though we would like it to add some comedic value to the film. We don’t want the set to look tacky or poorly made. Even though these risks are evident we still feel this could add a lot to our film, and a suitable location could not be found.
Using a set will also allow us to have much better control of the light which surrounds the gnome’s house. This will allow us to easily convey day time and night time, allowing us not to have to shoot at night.
We know that if the set doesn’t work out or we run out of time that we can use other locations, however we don’t feel these will have the same effect. We want to pull the audience into the gnome’s world, and then drag him into theirs, which we feel would work best with a set unlike any real place. This will allow for the audience to understand the gnome better, creating a relationship between them.
