Jaws Poster Deconsruction
In this comedy spoof of an action film, the creator of this poster has used the conventions of an action poster and created humour with them. For example, when an actor or actress is bigger than the film, then people would say they have been topped billed. This means that in the poster, that particular actor or actresses name is bigger than the title. In this poster the creator has taken this concept further than normal, by making ‘STILLER’ so large at the top. This is backed up further by the fact that a large majority of the poster is Ben Stiller, in a comedic action pose. They have chosen the most simple of danger symbols, being fire, and taken this as far as they could by surrounding the main character in it. However, just like every action adventure, the viewer knows that the protagonist will never die. Interesting the only other information given, other than the title and star actor, is the release date. There is no mention of the director or the producer of this film.
The Ring Poster Deconstruction
The maker of this poster has clearly decided that less is more. They didn’t want the viewer to know much about the storyline of the film, apart from that it is dark and scary. The title of the film is inside a visual image of that title, ‘the ring’ inside a white ring. The title has a very gothic font, and the ring around it is very mysterious and misty. They have included a very short but effective tagline at the top of the poster, this gives the viewer something to expect. However, they will only find out whether this is true by going to watch the film. 90% of the poster is in black, this colour represents darkness, horror, suspense, and mystery. Lastly, at the bottom of the poster they have star names and production companies, which almost every film poster includes.
Inception Poster Deconstruction

This poster has a brilliant catch phrase at the top of the poster, which sets the scene for what the film is about. The title of the film is very bold, and is the only thing in this poster which has a bright colour. The screen shot is very epic and shows that the CGI used in this film is very effective. It tells the audience that they are going to see things in this film that they have never seen before. The colours are very dark; giving the impression that there is going to be a lot of drama and mystery. The main actor in this film, Leonardo DiCaprio, has him name spread across the whole poster above the title. Other actors and actresses names are just below his name. It also mentions the director’s previous big blockbuster, ‘The Dark Night’. Lastly it has the normal information, the release date and the production on company logo.
Jaws Poster Deconsruction
The most important thing shown in this trailer is the title. They have used the colour red to represent blood and danger. This is backed up by the image of the shark’s jaws and the extremely vulnerable person swimming. We also see three actors’ names standing out at the bottom. At the top of the poster there is a reference to the best selling book, and at the bottom we can see the PG certification. In the small print we see the credits, which include director, and music producer. The poster is finished off with the black border which surrounds the image; this creates a very eerie feeling towards the film. This is giving the viewer a short example of the feelings they would feel if they were to watch the film.
